Yes. Your figuring it right.
1.2:1 means 1.2 of your figs to kill one of thiers. or 1.2 figs of theirs (at 1:1 offensive) to kill 1 of yours.
This formula is good for capturing :
(defensive odds * enemie figs)
------------------------------
offensive odds
So if you attack a ship with 1.4:1 odds and he got 5k figs
1.4 * 5000
---------- = 5833 figs
1.2
If the player has shields on his ship you have to take them into account.
If you have a combat scanner
1.4 * (5000 + ( shield % * max shields))
----------------------------------------
1.2
!! NOTE !! First time I got a parantesis wrong in the formula.. The formula is now corrected.. !! NOTE !!
so if he got 50% shields on a ship that takes 2000.
1.4 * ( 5000) + ( 0.50 * 2000))
----------------------------- = 7000 figs
1.2
In HVS MBBS an unmanned ship got a 60% penalty so the same ship unmanned would only cost you 4200 figs to capture. I dunno if this with the unmanned ship works in TWGS version of TW or not.
This is not an exact science since you have a random factur in combat but most of the times if you use this formula you will capture the ship and it will still have some figs left on it but will be owned by you.
